But there’s also been some good stuff too. The de-aging effects they have been using have been pretty impressive so far. As well as things such as the time travel suits in the endgame, they were CG as well. CG can be used for a lot more than just explosions and is often used in movies without us realizing it.

IMO what Marvel did well is consistently producing movies that are low-risk, consistent, hitting the demographics with marketing just right, and make good entertainment. They are the epitome of using a formula that works and pushing it to its limits, with enough variability that they keep hitting the top box office (IE people don’t get bored just yet). I feel like the only way someone can say they didn’t make them better is by forgetting how awful some of the old movies were. For fuck’s sake, Daredevil was horrendous.

They didn’t make superhero movies huge by making better superhero movies – they made them huge due to a concerted effort to get people to watch for reasons other than being a good movie: they have all my characters, the single universe, etc. No, they definitely made better superhero movies in a technical sense. If you look at superhero flicks from the time period immediately preceding the MCU (Catwoman, Electra, Daredevil, X-Men, Ghostrider, Punisher, etc) their action is slow, awful and incredibly corny. Marvel somehow made it really good.
