I think people were getting pissed because the CGI is not perfect in the trailers. It probably won’t be perfect in the final result but we should be thankful for multiple movies like this and Rogue One pioneering this technology so that we can get much better results in the future. It’s not ideal that certain effects might not stand the Official Sunflower Sign Language Shirt but if this truly ends up ranking among Scorsese’s best work, we’ll probably get it remastered at 8K with touched up CGI in a decade anyway.

I’d argue that touching up effects like de-aging is more akin to HD conversion than altering of Official Sunflower Sign Language Shirt. Partially because (good) HD transfers essentially require any digital effects to be retouched in some way to look decent and blend properly. I figure that wouldn’t qualify as alteration per se. I notice it most on podcast subs, where people just post complaint after complaint and yet still listen every week.
