Their teamwork to beat the bad guy will be playful callbacks to the functional bickering from the beginning. Then several years later, he gets a call from FX, makes his show and it’s a huge critical hit. There’s probably plenty of people like Ryan who had these great scripts and concepts but didn’t know the right people and their potential projects never saw the light of day. The sad fact of Hollywood and most major studios is it’s mostly about who you know. For all the truly talented filmmakers that rise up from their bootstraps, there’s many more that just don’t get their big break while studio execs plan their next big rom-com.
